HINTS:

Social & Cultural Context

• how the product reflects what was happening in society at the time in which it was made through its use of media language, genre conventions, representations, themes, values, messages and viewpoints

• how the product reflects what was normal in the time in which it was made through aspects of its production, distribution, marketing, regulation, circulation and audience consumption.

Firstly, social & cultural context is the way people interact with their social groups and how these social groups influence different people and how they develop throughout their lives, Referring to the 'This girl can' advert which is a campaign that was launched in January 15th is to get girls and women regardless of shape, size and ability to get moving, This girl can believes that there's no right way to get active.

The product reflects what was happening in society at the time in which it was made through its use of media language, genre conventions, representations, themes, values, messages and viewpoints this is showing women challenging stereotypes by playing different sports and activities, showing hard work and showing enjoyment within the sports they play, this also shows the changes in history for example in the 1800s women were encouraged to join 'recreational' sports such as horseback riding and swimming then during world war 2 whiles men were at war, women started to play football which became a huge growth since from 1848 women's rights movements started, meaning women had not much freedom.

Today 'this girl can' uses social media to encourage more women and girls to get more active, the campaign does this by using #thisgirlcan this helps travel over social media representing women doing sporting events.
'This girl can' is funded by the national lottery which is powered with 30 million pounds
